Cleveland Play House is committed to building a better community through theatre, a tradition that began with the inception of CPH in 1915. We do this by telling stories that matter in high-quality productions that are imaginative and thrilling. We also build community through exceptional education and engagement programs that instill essential life and workforce skills in our young people, inspire curiosity among adult learners, and create important conversations around social issues illuminated by our plays. Our purpose is to serve our community by bringing people of all ages and walks of life together for shared experiences that are inspiring, surprising, and entertaining.
Cleveland Play House's comprehensive suite of ten innovative education and engagement programs range from in-theatre experiences to initiatives rooted in Cleveland's most challenged schools and neighborhoods. CPH has reached an estimated 1.5 million children since the first formalized theatre class was delivered in 1933. Today, more than 30,000 young people, Pre-K through college, enjoy programs both at the theatre and in schools annually. Cleveland Play House staff provide an average of 550 instructional hours to students each week throughout the school year.Your support will help provide unique offerings and life-altering opportunities to at-risk students and students with varying needs within Cleveland schools and across Northeast Ohio.
We are very proud of the recent expansion of the CARE Program, which teaches social and emotional skills and literacy to K-8 students through theatre education. Thanks to a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, funding from Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD), and support from donors like you, we are able to bring year-round residencies of this program in 16 CMSD schools, 10 full-time and 6 part-time. We are proud to offer CARE as one of the many tools and programs to enhance student achievement in Northeast Ohio.
